What is Montana Pushback?
Montana Pushback is your go-to platform for staying informed, engaged, and empowered throughout Montana’s Legislative Session. Designed to help you track key bills, contact lawmakers, and take action on the issues that matter most, it’s the best way to ensure your voice is heard. Whether you’re fighting to protect public lands, advocating for energy freedom, or protecting our democracy, Montana Pushback makes it simple for you to stay involved and make a real impact. It’s where Montanans unite to ensure our values are represented, our priorities are heard, and our future is protected.
Montana Pushback was created leading up to the 2021 legislative session to respond to a critical need: make it easier for everyday Montanans to stay connected, informed and engaged during the Legislative Session. We recognize it can be challenging to track bills, contact lawmakers, and take meaningful action on the issues affecting our communities. So, we built a platform to bridge the gap — giving Montanans a simple, accessible tool to track legislation, advocate and make your voices heard. What started as a straightforward idea has grown into a powerful resource for thousands of Montanans who want to create powerful change. Each Legislative Session, we continue to refine and enhance the platform, ensuring that every voice has a place in the conversation and together we can shape the future of our state.
In the 2025 legislative session, some of Team MCV’s top priorities include:
Protecting conservation funding.
Montana’s outdoor way of life is one of our state’s most cherished assets, and protecting it requires adequate funding. HB 701 was passed in 2021, allocating necessary funding to Fish, Wildlife, and Parks annually based on a percentage of marijuana tax revenue. We appreciate that the Governor’s November 2024 budget proposal makes significant investments in Habitat Montana and non-game wildlife, as well as continued funding for state parks and trails. This is a good start, and we’re committed to working with lawmakers to ensure these essential investments get across the finish line. We will work tirelessly to ensure this funding source remains secure going into the future.
Advancing energy freedom.
Despite Montana’s abundant potential for clean energy development, we have lagged behind many of our neighbors. Simultaneously, studies show Montana residential customers pay more for energy than nearly any other state in the region while commercial and industrial rates are dropping. At the 2025 Legislative Session, we will leverage these failures in Montana’s energy policy to drive support for expanded access to community solar, enhanced net metering policies, and time-of-use utility plans.
Defending our democracy.
As Montanans, we have considerable constitutional protections, an independent judiciary, and an active ballot initiative process. These important aspects of democracy are crucial to defend. Recent legislative efforts have attempted to strip many of these rights away, but because of the solid foundation set in Montana’s constitution, we have an opportunity to not only defend our existing protections, but to expand them.
